A few οf mу friends whο hаνе јυѕt hаԁ children οr hаνе јυѕt hаԁ showers hаνе added a convertible car seat tο thеіr registry іn addition tο thеіr infant one. BUT thе one I Ɩіkе (οf course) іѕ аƖmοѕt 300$. Thеу аƖƖ hаԁ іt οn theirs (ѕοmе οf thеm actually ɡοt іt!) ѕhουƖԁ I even рυt іt οn mine οr skip іt?
Wе аrе going wіth thе Graco Snugride 35 fοr thе infant carrier whісh ѕhουƖԁ last tο аt Ɩеаѕt 18 months (hopefully longer) ѕο I thіnk іtѕ a ƖіttƖе far οff tο add thе bіɡɡеr seat аѕ well bυt friends keep suggesting I add іt…whаt ԁο уου thіnk? Dіԁ уου hаνе one οn уουr registry аnԁ ԁіԁ уου ɡеt іt?
Wе ԁο hаνе enough room wе аrе moving іntο a nеw bіɡ house before mу shower! (οf course rіɡht? storing іt never even crossed mу mind! lol) I аm јυѕt ѕο paranoid аbουt being greedy bυt I keep hearing ADD MORE!! =( I mіɡht јυѕt try іt…humm…

I had people bug me about that too, but my problem was this: I just didn’t have the space to store it in case I did get it. I left it off my registry altogether and just registered for the infant one. If you have the space for storing it, then register — you never know if you’ll get it or not =)
i would skip it. if its going to be (at least) another year before youre ready to use it, you’ve wasted a year of use for the seat. i’d ask, instead, for gift cards to wherever you want to buy the convertible seat, and buy it new when you’re ready for it.
Add it. Sometimes people will pool together to get you one big gift off your registry, or you might have a mother or MIL who splurges and buys it for you. And even if you don’t get it, many of the larger stores (Toys R Us is one) will give you a 10-25% discount if you want to purchase any of the registry items that you did not receive as gifts… that alone makes it worthwhile for you!
Definately add it. The biggest complaint I hear about registries is there is not enough to choose from. People want to find something on your registry that they would buy for themselves, so the more you have to choose from, the easier it is for the people buying for you. The rule of thumb for registries is 4 items for each shower guest you expect. It sounds like a lot, but when you add all the small stuff, nipples for each age, paci’s…it adds up fast. Someone also mentioned getting a discount at some stores if it’s on your registry, for BabiesRus it’s usually 10%, but occasionally you can get a 15% rgeistry completion coupon.
I would check into the life of the convertible seat, most are 10 years, but a couple are only 8. If it’s 10 or more years, then go ahead and get it, if it sits for a year you still have 9 years of use. If it’s only good for 8 yrs I would wait to buy it.
Since you have done your research and have a seat picked out, I would suggest you go to http://www.carseatdata.org. You enter the make, model and year of your car, then the car seat, and it will tell you whether or not the car seat will fit properly in your car. For instance, a Britax Marathon is a great seat, but if it doesn’t fit properly in your car, then it’s not safe.
If your car/carseat combination isn’t listed on the website, go to the store and ask to take the floor model out and see how it fits. You want to make sure it fits securely and has no side to side movement. I would also recommend you do the same with the Snugride, although it’s rare to find a vehicle that the Snugride doesn’t work in.
