I don’t know about extenders. But you should be able to find a 5 point harness seat that is bigger. I don’t know how big your 2 year old is but my nephew is 5 and a large boy and he still sits in a 5 point harness because he won’t behave in a booster. Just look for a different seat. Go to walmart and look at the seats. Even stick your child in them and see if they fit. Are you sure your seats straps don’t adjust bigger? Because mine adjust big enough for like a 7 year old if a 7 year old needed to sit in it. Try to find one because it is much safer. Good luck.

Call your local police department of hospital and ask to speak with a child life Specialist or care seat technician, they should be able to direct you on a proper car seat for your child. You want to be sure to stay within the correct weight recommendations on a specific car seat. Going outside of theses specifications could render the car seat unsafe if you were to be in a crash. As far as extenders a technician at your local police department or hospital would be able to help you.

When I did my shopping for a combo seat over the Winter I looked at a lot of different seats. Many of them said they were good for a child up to 75 or 100 lbs and I was like oh! that’s the kind I should get in case Avary is chunky or something. But then I looked a little further and I found that the ones that are a bit more expensive and have slightly lower weight limits are usually better because you can use the 5 point harness longer. For instance, one seat, the you could use up to 100 lbs but the 5 point system was only rated up to 35 lbs, then you were supposed to switch to using the car’s shoulder seat belt. The one I ended up buying (a Recaro Como) was more expensive but it can be used with the 5 point system the entire time up to (70 lbs, I think its 70 or somewhere around that).

I’m not sure about extenders. It sounds like an unsafe idea becasue the straps are built into the seat to be very secure and if the straps aren’t fitting her, she is probably over the weight limit for that type of use on the seat. You may want to check your manual. Try calling the car seat company and asking. I’m sure it’s a question they have gotten before and it can’t hurt to ask.

I do know they make a device that makes it more difficult for the child to open the seat belt clip – if that’s the problem. Let me see if I can find it… I’ll be right back and post it in a second.
This is it. http://www.safe-tots.com/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?preadd=action&key=1000-10-0005&reference=/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi%3Fsearch%3Daction%26keywords%3DOnTheGo%26searchstart%3D12%26template%3DTemplates/SearchResult.html I’ve seen them for sale at most baby stores, like Br’U and Baby Depot. If that’s not the problem, I’m not sure what else you could do except purchase a seat that is larger, like mine. Here is a link to the one I bought. I know they just came out with a new version so I’m not sure if the exact one is still available (Como) but from wat I hear the new one is just as awesome. BTW, Recaro is a lesser known German brand but it has the same rankings safety-wise as the Britaxes. Recaro is better known for making race car seats. http://www.recaro.com/index.php?id=6048&region=3&L=2 There was a recall on some of the earlier models but it didn’t affect my daughter’s seat.

So you have a two year old in a booster seat? That’s against the law you know. A child must be a minimum age of 4 years old AND 40 pounds before they can be in a booster. Since a lot of 5 point harness car seats only harness to 40 pounds, you have to find one that has a higher harness weight limit. One such seat is the Graco Nautilis which will keep her in a harness up to 65 pounds and then becomes a high back or low back booster till 100 pounds. A two year old has no business being in a booster. She is not mature enough to stay seated properly for the entire ride. A seatbelt extender is not going to do you any good, besides they’re not safe anyway. You can find the Nautilis for $150 at Walmart.
